European Public Health Alliance (EPHA)
The European Public Health Alliance is a network of more than 100 nongovernmental and non-for profit organisations working on public health in Europe. 35 EPHA members are pan-European or international networks.
EPHA aims to promote and protect the health interests of all people living in Europe and to strengthen the dialogue between the EU institutions, citizens and civil society organisations in support of healthy public policies.
Our activites include:
- monitoring the policy making process within the EU institutions and maximising the flow of information concerning health promotion and public health policy developments amongst all interested players including: Commission officials, MEPs, member state and candidate country ministries, CSOs and citizens;
- promoting greater awareness amongst European citizens and nongovernmental organisations about policy developments and programme initiatives that effect the health of EU citizens so that they can contribute to the policy making process and take practical action to take part in appropriate programmes;
- supporting collaboration and partnerships between non-governmental organisations and other not for profit organisations active at European, national and local level on health promotion and public health.
In the European Parliament, EPHA provides secretarial assistance to the Intergroup on Health and Consumer issues. This is a fruitful forum for discussion between health CSOs and MEPs with a special interest in health issues. EPHA is a member of the Platform of European Social NGOs, the Civil Society Contact Group and the European Foundation Center. EPHA is a founding member of the Health and Environment Alliance (HEAL).
EPHA has recently carried out a campaign advocating for better involvement of civil society organisations in EU research funded projects.
